Putting together the K Ration can be time consuming and tedious. Trying to find local products to fit in the dimensions of boxes and wrappers can be a challenge.
This section meant to try and alleviate some of this problem, the products mentioned here are usually available in most stores or online.
Note: These products shown are just suggestions.
The Meat Can: This has been one of the hardest pieces, as the cans that are normally used (Tuna) are not the correct size, they will fit in the inner boxes but just not with the protective cardboard can sleeve. Here a few ideas: |
The cheese can is the correct size and will fit in the inner box with the protective cardboard sleeve. This can could be sprayed OD green to cover the can design. The chicken and smoked ham as stated will not fit in the inner boxes with the protective cardboard sleeve. |
Frontline Rations provides decals for the can lids that can be applied to make the cans look more authentic. |
Fruit Bar/ Dromedary Bar: Here is a bar that fit perfectly in the fruit bar box and also works for the Dromedary bar (Although it is a little short in the height). |
Beverage: The beverage sachets are filled with products such as- Breakfast - Coffee soluble single serve packets. Dinner - Lemon/Orange soluble single serve packets. Supper - 1 Tsp of Beef/ Chicken Bouillon Powder. |
Biscuits: This is another hard one, Trying to find the correct size of biscuits that fit correctly in the cellophane bag can be tough. Using a good sharp knife, you can trim down products like Graham Crackers to fit the bags. The rectangular biscuit size should be not larger than 3 3/16" long, 1 3/16" wide and 5/16" thick. |
Sugar cubes: The sugar cubes nowadays are a lot smaller than the ones used during the war, to find suitable ones you need to look for foreign made cubes as they can be larger and are similar to wartime cubes. |
Chocolate Bars: The chocolate bars were mainly the 2 oz D Ration type (Early and later size) or the Sweet Chocolate Bar, then later on the 1 oz Nestles Chocolate Bar (x2) along with Mars/Milky Way Torrid Zone confection. |
Frontline Rations provides a selection of molds and wrappers for the above mentioned chocolate bars. |
